📘 Meaning & Usage

The grammar pattern にする is used when making a decision or choice. It often appears in situations like ordering food, choosing a product, or deciding on an action.

Structure:

  • Noun + にする – to decide on [noun]

It can also express a change caused by the speaker, similar to “make (something) become”.

💡 Example Sentences

  • コーヒーに します。
    I’ll have coffee. / I’ll go with coffee.
  • このシャツに します。
    I’ll choose this shirt.
  • やすみに します。
    I’ll make it a holiday. / I’ll take a rest.
  • テレビを おおきく しました。
    I made the TV louder. (→ more formal: にしました)
