🔍 Meaning & Usage
The expressions ～にしては and ～にしても are used to describe a contrast between expectations and reality.
- ～にしては: Used when the result is unexpected for the given condition.
- ～にしても: Used to express surprise or doubt, even if the condition is considered.
Structure:
[Noun] + にしては[Noun] + にしても
English meanings:
- ～にしては: “For a [noun]…,” “Considering… it’s surprising that…”
- ～にしても: “Even if…, still…”

- 彼は初心者にしては、かなり上手だ。
He’s quite good for a beginner. - 今日は春にしては寒すぎる。
