JLPT N5 Grammar: も – “Also / Too”

📘 Meaning & Usage

The particle is used to indicate similarity or addition. It can mean “also” or “too” in English.

It replaces the particles , , or in a sentence when you want to add something or someone to a previously mentioned context.

Example: 私も学生です。 (Watashi mo gakusei desu.) – I am a student too.

Note: も emphasizes similarity or inclusion.

  • 彼も日本人です。
    Kare mo Nihonjin desu.

📚 Grammar Notes

  • replaces , , or when expressing “also” or “too”.
  • Can be used to emphasize the amount or frequency, e.g., 三つも (as many as three), 一時間も (a whole hour).
  • In negative sentences, it can mean “not even”, e.g., 一つも分かりません。– I don’t understand even one.
