📘 Meaning & Usage
~ずにはいられない expresses the idea of “can’t help but…” or “can’t stop oneself from…”. It shows that someone is emotionally or psychologically compelled to act.
Structure:
V(ない form, drop ない)+ ずにはいられない
- する becomes せずにはいられない
Meaning: “Can’t help but…”, “Have to…”
This pattern is considered a bit more formal or literary than ~ないではいられない.
